Anushka Sharma, along with her modelling career, joined an actor's school and started to perform in films. Anushka was first seen in a role of acting in a film by Shah Rukh Khan opposite Anushka. As a screen test for her, she refused to perform the test in a hurry and instead spent the day off to practice. In the following days, she was cast in three movies for Yash Raj Films. The film in which she starred was the young bride to a middle-aged male (the part Shah Rukh Khan was playing). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. In 2010 Anushka Sharma starred in the movie 'Badmash Company together with Shahid Kapoor Vir Das as well as Meiyang Chang. The film received mixed reviews. Anushka was also seen with Ranveer in the movie 'Band Baaja Baaraat', in which she played an Punjabi middle class girl who started her own business. It was a surprise hit and was praised by the critics. Anushka finished her deal of three films with Yash Raj Films after Band Baaja Baaraat.
